Our training is very intensive and our students spend approximately 800 hours working and studying butling at our Academy. When finished we are confident that these students are able to do a fine job. Nevertheless, it can best be compared with obtaining a driver's license. Once you have your driver's license, you can drive, but you are not a good driver yet. This comes with experience. The same applies to our training program.

At our Academy, you learn "on the job", in a real, large, exclusive private home. From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave, you will be fulfilling all the duties of a butler in a demanding household, all under the guidance of superb instructors. Over the years we have proven that our training methods work. Our clients have more faith in our students than in butlers with many years of experience. Our training is extensive and covers all aspects of butling and estate management. Our graduates are successful in many different types of butling, service and hospitality jobs, in almost every country in the world.

The training takes place at Huize Damiaan, the largest private mansion in The Netherlands, completely dedicated to the professional training of butlers. The Residence is an astounding 7.500 square meters, or 80.000 square feet large, with 135 completely renovated rooms. This is the kind of location where you might be working once you graduate. Huize Damiaan will be your home away from home for 10 weeks. We employ some of the finest trainers in the world. Everything imaginable is included in the fee, from room and board, free butler uniform, and much much more. Our training costs 214 Euros per day. Don't be fooled with information from other schools. Don't compare apples with oranges. Do a real comparison. Do your research and do it well.

Absolutely! We always encourage potential students to do their research and to do it well. What better way is there than to visit us, and spend time with us and with our students. Do visit us if at all possible. We do request that you make an appointment beforehand. Visit other schools if you can. Again, do your research and do it well.

Please read the information on the "butler uniform" page. The uniform is an integral part of the training. Our students run a real, large and ultra-luxurious household when they are with us. Proper decorum is important. A butler will normally not wear a butler uniform for every day work. However, the butler uniform is certainly worn for special occasions, certain events, formal dinners, and more.

Virtually every employment agency in the world recognizes the high standards represented by our diploma. However important this may be, the most important affiliation the school has, is with the exclusive International Guild of Professional Butlers. Employers from around the world certainly recognize the TIBA diploma. Over the years, we have  proven the diploma's worth and the high quality of the TIBA graduates. TIBA is also a City & Guilds (UK) approved training senter.

We support our graduating students 100 % either through our own recruitment division, our extensive network or through affiliated agencies. Our Chairman and our Recruitment Director work with each student to help position him or her for a successful entry into the private service workforce.

You do not have any costs when we ask you to go to a job interview. None. We pay your airfare, your hotel, your meals, and anything else to do with the job interview. If we wish you to travel to a client by air, we will have a pre-paid airline ticket ready for you to be picked up at the airport on the day of departure. We guarantee you that we will pay for any and all expenses concerning job interviews.

No. In most cases we will do this for you. Sometimes a potential employer will want you to discuss salary requirements. Normally speaking a salary indication and the job responsibilities are discussed with you before you go to a job interview, so you have all this information beforehand.

We stay in close contact with you and your employer to ensure that both of you are satisfied. Upon request, we visit the employer at home, interview with the employer and with you, assess the work situation, give advice and so on. In any case, even with a simple telephone call, we ensure that you and the employer are both satisfied.

Distant learning does not work, at least not in our profession. Just read through our web site and what TIBA offers with its ten-week intensive training program. Do you really think you can learn all of this and hope to become a professional butler through a distant learning program? If you are serious about becoming a butler, or if you are employed in service and wish to learn more - join our program. Our program works because it is based on practical, hands-on experience. A book, a correspondence course, or sitting in a classroom, is not going to develop the necessary skill sets for you to be successful.

TV networks and TV production companies invest a lot of money in their programs and documentaries. These programs and documentaries are therefore copyrighted. We do not have permission to put these on our website. You may, of course, try Google.com or Youtube.com.

Well, truly everything is included. For full details please read the tuition fee page. If you can think of anything not included, then ask us. We can guarantee you that if it belongs to a normal training day, or when you live away from home, it is included. Washing powder for your clothes? Included. Candy? Included. Wireless Internet, Food and drinks on days off, print cartridges? Included. Transportation if you want to go into town on your day off? Included. Etc. Etc.

This is indeed a requirement. We find it essential that our core trainers know what students go through, have done the same assignments and homework, know what is taught, have been on all the field trips, have eaten the same meals, slept in the student bedrooms, etc. All trainers have worked hard to receive their TIBA diploma. This fact, combined with their experience in private service, their teaching skills and their absolute love for the butling profession, makes them the finest instructors you can imagine.

The total cost of the 10-week training program is 14.500 Euros. A 750 Euros deposit is required when signing up to reserve a place, with the remaining 13.750 Euros to be paid no later than 60 days prior to the start of the training program. All fees are non-refundable, for any reason, but may be applied towards a future training program in case you must reschedule, fall ill, or have a personal situation which forces you to postpone.

No. With all due respect, we are not a car dealership. We also have bills to pay. We will certainly assist students with filling out forms for loans, visas, or grants. We also will be pleased to write a Letter of Acceptance or Invitation letter for you that you may need to obtain a loan from a bank. In the end, the tuition fee is your responsibility.

Yes, we certainly can help. A student who has a legitimate reason why he or she "must" take a particular training program that is full, is often granted admission providing the student writes a solid motivation letter.

Yes you may, but you must keep in mind that there are not all that many free days, and you need these free days to work on your homework and assignments.

Basically the entire time spent at The International Butler Academy is practical experience. Every day each student has the opportunity to learn relevant skills through hands-on experiences. An astonishing 80% of your time with us will be practical.

This copying is very true, but unfortunately, there is not that much we can do about it. The offenders are usually people with no funds at all, and we end up paying for all the legal fees. Nevertheless, we do take legal action from time to time. There are a lot of persons in this profession for the wrong reasons, with no morals or integrity. That is just the way it is. We hope that people searching for training, or employers looking for staff, will do their research and know to come to us.

Our Chef cooks excellent meals and will do his very best to accommodate the wishes of all the students.

Bringing a laptop with you is indeed important to do your homework, do your research, stay in touch with your family and friends and perhaps play your favorite music. Of course we provide free and fast wireless internet access. In case you do not own a laptop or cannot borrow one from a friend, we do have computers with Internet access available at school for you to use.

Most of these photos were taken on graduation day, or during a formal event. We have thousands and thousands of photos to choose from and we chose the more formal ones. There are also informal photos to be found on our web site. The ceremonial part of being a butler is still very much alive and is something we believe in. It is practiced on a regular basis. The reason for a butler "standing to attention" the way you see on a number of photographs has to do with a particular kind of training that is rather unique to our school. Note that we have on our web site a Photo Tour. There are many pages with photos there and many photos are not in formal attire.

We actually have a fully equipped and professional laundry room, with washers and dryers you will normally only see at the dry cleaners. Our in-house staff look after our students' laundry so they don't have to worry about it. Nevertheless, we provide students with a steam iron, including sprays for ironing, an ironing board and more. Bed linen and towels are of course provided also.

Exchange rates differ from day to day. There are many currency converters to be found on the Internet. Here is one we use frequently.

You must speak and understand English, and be at least 18 years of age. There are no requirements concerning prior education or experience. Both mean little to us. You must have the kind of service oriented personality and character that will make you successful working in private service. How can we determine this? We cannot. Even if we would spend a full day with you, we cannot. We do our best evaluating your information but in the end, it is your decision. Age and gender are not important. The easiest way to signup is to email us your Resume (CV), a brief cover letter and a recent photo.

We do not expect our students to read service related books. In fact, we prefer that students come to us with an open mind, also because we believe that most books are not very good. In case students wish to read books we have an extensive library at school containing many interesting books. Our library contains relevant films, documentaries, and TV series also. These materials may be borrowed upon request.

Yes. The International Butler Academy is an officially registered training institute. Of the various registrations, the one with the Dutch CRKBO (www.crkbo.nl) is one of the most important ones. This governing body examines, verifies and registers private institutes, assuring that these institutes and its trainers comply with the highest standards of education and that appropriate policies are in place. Once an institute is registered with the CRKBO, the institute's students do not need to pay VAT (Value Added Tax), which is of course a huge saving for the students. We are registered with the Chamber of Commerce, pay taxes, are regularly audited, and are affiliated with a number of professional organizations. Even the building we occupy is regularly checked as it is an historic building, and protected by the National Trust. We are also an approved training center by City & Guilds of London, England. Through an extensive on-site audit, City & Guilds checked, verified and approved The Academy's butler training program. Last, but not least, virtually every placement agency in the world distinguishes TIBA as the only professional butler school in the world.

Part of our training program has to do with public speaking. Everyone who has ever attended our training learned to be less shy and in the end had little or no fear of public speaking. We understand that you will require personal attention, guidance, and training. We will do our very best to help you. As far as a job is concerned, some employers prefer a shy person. Different employers have different wishes. We are open to anyone who wishes to become a professional butler.

Butling is one profession where age is not important. Some employers prefer young staff, other employers prefer older staff. You must, however, be flexible, honest, discreet, hard-working, loyal, etc. These and similar qualities are much more important to a potential employer than your age.

Yes. It is important to us that you have your privacy during the training program. Your bedroom has a wonderful box-spring bed, quality linen, and even a safe where you can put your valuables.

The Graduation Ceremony at our Academy is a very special occasion. Of course you wish your family and friends to be part of the celebrations. You may invite as many guests as you wish.
